Cathay Pacific First Class Hong Kong to JFK

The pinnacle of the trip, my Cathay First Class experience, started at an eerily empty boarding gate, with the impacts of the Coronavirus outbreak clearly showing with a reported drop in demand of over 50%.

On board, however, the first class cabin of 6 seats was completely full.

Set up in a two rows, each seat has aisle access to one of the two aisles.

A welcome drink awaited me along with a personalized note and a flower.

Once we had settled in, the crew passed out a much nicer pajama set than I could have ever imagined, especially the mandarin collar to give it an oriental flair.

After takeoff, I was delighted to see that they were serving Krug 2004 vintage champagne.

Which paired nicely with the highly anticipated caviar course.

I followed that up with a smoked red pepper soup...

And a broccolini and edamame salad with tahini.

For my main, I had an outstanding clay pot of five spice wagyu beef cheeks.

After dinner, my bed was made up for me and I fell right to sleep.  At 3 feet wide and 6.75 feet long, the seat had ample room to sleep in any and every position (as I often toss and turn).  In the end, I was able to get a solid 8 hours of shuteye during the 16 hour flight and got off the plane rested and ready to tackle the two hour drive home.

All in all, I was beyond impressed with Cathay First.  I've come to appreciate the little things from the food to the service, but most of all, the ability to get quality sleep while spending so many hours in the air on this trip has been indispensable.

I hope you've enjoyed this little glimpse into premium cabin flying - please reach out if I can be of assistance to help you achieve your own aspirational trips.
