Delta One Suites DTW-AMS

Featured in this post:  Delta Skymiles Gold and Platinum cards

On a recent trip to Belgium, I was able to find saver award availability on Delta One (international business class) from Philadelphia to Brussels, via Atlanta.  Several months after booking, I noticed that our itinerary had changed and after some research, realized it was because the previously daily flight from ATL-BRU had been cut to only several times a week.

We now found ourselves routed from PHL-ATL-JFK-BRU, a routing which makes very little sense, especially when I noticed that the second flight took off after the first flight landed.

After some time on the phone with Delta, and armed with the new flights I wanted, I had switched to a routing through Detroit and Amsterdam (one extra connection) on a brand new Airbus A350 with Delta's flagship Delta One Suites as opposed to a rather dated business class product on their Boeing 767.

The business class cabin has all of the middle overhead compartments removed, making it feel extremely spacious.

Each suite has a door that can be closed once airborne.

Mood lighting only enhanced the experience and helped ease passengers to sleep for this redeye.

Food was fantastic for as far as airline catering is concerned.  Not pictured:  pistachio crusted lamb chops.

All of this for 87,500 Delta Skymiles - mostly earned through the American Express Delta Gold card, topped up with some points transferred from American Express Membership Rewards.
